Best times to visit Kenya

The best wildlife viewing time depends on what you intend to achieve. Truth is you can see wildlife throughout the year.

If you want to witness the “great migration”, months from July to the end of September are recommended. This is the time of “great migration” when millions of wildebeests, also known as Gnus, migrate into Masai Mara and cross the Mara river in herds – a spectacle to behold. If you have patience and get lucky you can see crocodiles taking down the gnus when they cross the Mara river. However this is when the entire world descends on Kenya, please expect hundreds of vehicles converging when there is a wildlife sighting.

Next best time is mid-December to the end of April. During mid- December to the end of April is generally quieter with less tourists. This allows you to spend solo time with the wildlife of your choice and take great photos and videos. Being a wildlife photographer, this is my favorite time to be in Mara.
